my very first complete team for XY OU

Post by Horsenwelles on Mon Nov 25, 2013 9:52 pm

kangaskhan

item: kang-nite
nature: adamant
EVs: 252 HP- 252 attack- 4 def
moves: fake out, return, crunch, power-up punch
ability: scrappy>>>parental bond

this is my lead. i used to run sableye without question, and i still ran it on this team for a while until i found it less and less useful for a successful team structure in this new environment. the reason i run this as a lead is that the double fake out leading to a double power up punch is ridiculously effective. not only that, but kang's bulk is so heavy and its doubling up of attacks is ridiculously effective on literally everything. its been my general powerhouse for early game and gets generally 3 KO's per battle. having a 3 KO average for a non-boosting tank is scary, and i found it a completely fantastic lead-tank.

zygarde

item: leftovers
nature: adamant
EVs: 4 hp - 252 attack - 252 speed
moves: dragon dance, earthquake, outrage, rock slide
ability: aura break

simple DD set. it sets up, has above average bulk, hits incredibly hard. any more information you require to understand a simple DD pokemon?

Malamar

item: leftovers
nature: jolly
EVs: 4 hp - 252 attack - 252 speed
moves: substitute, superpower, night slash, psycho cut
ability: contrary

this is one of my favorite new pokemon. its a wacky little thing that works far better than anyone would expect at first glance. most people run galvantulas in 6v6 OU because of that sticky web attack. the same applies for goodra's ability that slows down physical contact pokemon. imagine a pokemon that jumps in, gets a speed boost from it, uses superpower and gets a free bulk up with a 120 power attack. now imagine this pokemon ripping through a team late game, outspeeding everything, having ridiculous amounts of power, and a type that is offensively ridiculous. 2 weaknesses that generally are taken out by the time he's on the field, and an amazing design. i love this thing for a late game destroyer.

espeon

item: leftovers
nature: modest
EVs: 252 hp - 252 special attack - 4 speed
moves: calm mind, psyshock, HP- fire, shadow ball
ability: magic bounce

ok, magic bounce allows for immunity to taunts, immunity to status based attacks, an immidiate counter to all entry hazards, and allows free setting up on ferrothorns... what isn't good about this thing besides mildly bad physical bulk? this thing takes teams out by itself sometimes, andis incredibly hard to counter for most modern teams. i love how i named this thing the last 4 letters of its name in reverse; noep. imagine they toss a stealth rocks and you swich to good ol' espeon and go "NOEP YOU DONT!". great feeling.

volcarona

item: leftovers
nature: bold
EVs: 252 hp - 252 defense - 4 speed
moves: quiver dance, roost, firey dance, bug buzz
ability: flame body

yeah, its x4 weak to rock, blah blah blah. this thing rips through teams with such efficiency it and kang have taken down teams of 6 by themselves more than once. they could be the entire team and work scarily well, though they wouldn't have much support. this thing dances like natalie portman in black swan and fires like donald trump. good sweet jesus this thing is scary for anyone to deal with. that plus the occasional burns, the massive bulk, the crazy speed, the great type coverage makes it essential to this team.

aegislash

item: leftovers
nature: adamant
EVs: 252 hp - 252 attack - 4 sp def
moves: king's shield, swords dance, shadow sneak, sacred sword
ability: stance change

yep. this thing. again... this has become the most overflowingly used OU pokemon in recent history. its scarrily good at defense and offense, it has amazing use of older rpg strategy concepts of changing one's stats and title in game without changing the identity. it really is a fantastic fairy type counter with access to 2 priority moves that drastically affect the flow of play. if you havent tried using this thing, i suggest it highly. it really doesn't have much to worry about besides volcarona and other aegislashes. seriously, i love this thing.

Looks pretty solid! Only thing I'd say is that Talonflame with its priority flying attacks might be an issue for your team if its life orbed and/or gets a swords dance up. Aegislash could handle it with shadow sneak but you're playing with fire there... no pun intended.

talon has given me a slight hit here and there, but with full def volc it never 1HKO's without band. its definitely a threat though, but aegis tears it up lol.

Oooooh true... But it can't really touch talon in return...
Either way if aegislash handles it then cool beans haha

Hi there :) (I'm new)

i've seen a lot (and i mean tonnes) of people use Mega K, and to be honest i think Fake out is a waste of a move slot because you can only use it once, and you don't swap Mega K out because... well... why would you?

i run the same EVs, but with Sucker Punch, Return, Power up Punch and Earthquake for coverage. Earthquake also stops opposing Aegislash walling you with Kings Shield.

This is more of a personal choice, but i would run a rapid spinner over Espeon (or as well as) because eventually, someone will get around magic bouncers. I would suggest mold breaker excadrill, of spec. def hitmontop, which is working surprisingly well for me atm. Also, it gets forsight, meaning you will definitely get the rocks away if you predict them sending out their ghosties.

^True

Though an alternative to Rapid Spin this generation is Defog, which completely removes all entry hazards on both player's sides. Seeing as how you don't have any hazard users of your own, this is also a good option to avoid getting spin-blocked.

I suggest Azumarill > Aegislash, + 1 volcarona ohko/2hkos your entire team with Azumarill you resist both it STABS and scare it off with Choice Band Aqua Jet
Earthquake > Crunch on Khangaskhan, as previously mentioned it helps you get around opposing Aegislash's King's Sheild
Skarmory > Malamar, Skarmory can clear up hazards with Defog and setup it's own hazards, Stealth Rocks/spikes. Also you can phaze away other pokes that try to setup on you with whirlwind.

i might do this one. i was praising that new type and i never got around to trying it out. i was also trying out some other volc counters like quagsire/clefable/barbaricle in place of aegis. all have their ups and downs tbh, so i'll give azu a shot.

crunch will tear through defs man. double crunch makes that drop happen about 70% of the time. not to mention that without crunch, it has nothing to take on trevenant (which i see far more than i really should) and gengars. i might throw out fake out for eq tbh.

mally is there for fun really. i never liked skarmory, even with its competitive prowess. its just a stale pokemon to me and has too many problems in the new metagame. mally is a fun oddball that uses many of the new additions to its advantage.
